writes: The
compiler of the Music Lovers’ Competition hag shown great prudence in remaining anonymous. Otherwise: he . would doubtless have had hundreds of angry. competitors at his heels, complaining about items 31-40 from each station. Surely he had enough scope in the wide range of music we hear nowadaye to prepare a ‘thoroughly searching test without delving into the past to bring forth trivia] compositions which are, for the most part, better left undisturbed. Publishers and gramophone dealerg recognise the fact that we musically-edu-cated moderns would scorn to listen to such stuff, and, therefore, we have had no opportunities for hearing these compositions. ‘Why, then, should they be ineluded in competitions designed to teat our facility for remembering music we have heard? ‘Perhaps the broadeasting service thinks that all its listeners are of a ripe old age. 8
