listened-in to Sir Hamilton Harty’s tour. of the Australian stations two years ago with a good deal of enjoyment, when the of Dr. Malcolm Sargent’s coming yisit to Wellington appeared in the "Radio Record" some weeks ago, I looked forward with keen anticipation to ° the three scheduled broadeasts. In the case of the first two, on tuning in at the advertised times, I was greeted
with a. confused jabber of "Mr, Speaker," "Point of order," ete, A programme of records can be cut out without much harm being’ done, since it can be: introduced at any time in the future. .But'a pretty strong protest should be made against the practice of playing fast and loose with the broadcasts of flesh-and-blood. programmes in which a celebrated conductor wields the baton. To relegate two-of them to. a low-powered subsidiary station savours of an insult to the ‘conductor, the local artists, and the listening public. Under the circumstances, 1YA and 2YC could have provided ample coverage of the N orth Island for the Parliamentary debates, any gaps being filled in by the daily Press,
