Tracking of website usage
If you visit this site to read, download information, or log into your Papers Past account, we collect and store statistical information about the visit.
This information includes the server address, top-level domain name, date and time of the visit, pages accessed and documents downloaded, previous site visited, and type of browser used. For logged in users, this also includes activity associated with your account.
Site statistics allow us to assess the number of visitors to the different sections of our websites, identify what information is of interest, monitor system performance, and help us make our sites more useful to visitors.
Optional demographics tracking in Google Analytics has been disabled, to prevent analytics information about Papers Past users from being shared with third-parties.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that are sent by a website and stored on your computer's hard-drive. Browser cookies are used by this website to help provide the statistical information described under "Tracking of website usage".
This website also uses cookies to store the settings you choose for your searches, like the number of results per page you see, or the default sorting method used for those results. You may manually disable cookies at any time. Check your browser's "Help" information for instructions.
The search settings you choose are stored in the Papers Past session cookie in your browser. This includes things like your preference for how many articles you see per page of results (eg, 10, 25, 50, or 100), or for how the results are sorted.
Linking to this website
You are welcome to link to pages on the Papers Past website. Links should not say, or imply, that the material is the copyright of anyone other than the Library or the relevant copyright holder. Linking to this website from any other website or organisation should not be taken as endorsement of any kind by the Library.
Text corrections
You are welcome to correct the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) text on the Papers Past website. Please limit your edits to corrections of the OCR text so that it matches the text of the relevant original document, and that you exercise reasonable care in editing the OCR text. Please do not contribute new content or third-party content.
You must not post any content to the website that:
- infringes the intellectual property rights, or right to privacy, of any person or party;
- is defamatory, threatening, obscene or otherwise objectionable, breaches suppression orders or is otherwise unlawful; or
- harasses or intimidates other users of the website or any other person, or
- is not accurate or relevant.
The Library reserves the right to remove any contributed content as it sees fit, including if the content violates these terms of use.
The Library may from time to time undertake large-scale rework or data improvement. This may overwrite previous edits made by users.
Your edit to the OCR text will be saved to the index for the website. We are unable to provide a credit for your edits.
We have requested that you limit your contribution to edits of the OCR text, and that you do not post new content or third-party content. For this reason, we do not expect that your contribution to the website will attract its own copyright.
Notwithstanding this, by using the website and contributing any content, you grant the Crown a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free and irrevocable licence to use, for any purpose, the content that you contribute. This licence includes the right to use, copy, modify, sub-licence and distribute the content.
Editing of OCR text is done in a live environment where users will be editing text in real time. The Library will not be monitoring user edits as they are made but will regularly review text correction activity.
