Merle Miller-Soprano -- LASTENERS to 1YA will have noted with pleasure that Merle Miller, Christchurch mezzo-soprano, is again to sing for the Auckland station. This artist appeared at 1YA a few months ago, when her delightful voice and excellent singing met with wide appreciation. Not only is Miss Miller a mezzosoprano of rare dramatic ability, but she is also a brilliant pianiste and is the official accompaniste at 3YA, While at the Sydney Conservatorium, where for three years she studied singing and pianoforte, she appeared frequently on the concert platform. The most note-. worthy of her public performances was in the Sydney Philharmonic Society’s presentation of "Faust." For this she and Joseph Hislop had been specially engaged. Miss Miller took the part of Siebel. Besides gaining her LA.B., Miss Miller has the honour of having been awarded the Conservatoritim’s diploma for singing. Miss Miller’s items at 1YA will be as follows :- September 3-‘‘Alla Stella Confidente" (Robaudi), "To Music’ (Schubert), "In the Silence of the Night" (Rachmaninoff). September 4-"The White Dove" (Lehar), "She is Far from the Land" (Lambert), "Hecho" (Somerset), "My Hero" (Strauss). September 5-‘Softly Awakes My Heart" (Saint Saens), "Land of Hope and Glory" (Hlgar).
