"Items from Wellington ME. Cc. A. L. TREADWELL will give ‘another of his series of talks on "The Rationalisation of Industry" at 7.40; The 2YA concert:promises to be one of outstanding merit, the vocalists all being artists of high standing, with several years of broadcasting experience. Miss Gwladys Edwardes, the soprano soloist, will be heard in a bracket of two folk songs, one Bohemian and the other Italian, and in a further bracket of two compositions by the popular English ballad composer, Montague Phillips. .Two compositions of Teresa del Riego, "A Castilian La--ment" and "Slave Song," together with Blumenthal’s "My Queen," will be sung as baritone solos by Mr. S. Evelyn Rodger. Miss Hilda Chudley, a popular contralto, will sing "A Lament" (by Coleridge-Taylor) and Landon Ronald’s "Spring," "Adelaide," one of Beethoven’s famous songs, and Schu‘bert’s "Hark, Hark, the Lark," will be Mr. Edwin Dennis’s contribution to the programme. Both of these numbers are good examples of German lieder, and their correct interpretation is assured. An item of outstanding interest on the programme will be "The Quarrel Scene" from Sheridan’s famous play "The School for Scandal." This will be enacted by Mr. Vryn Evans .and Miss C, Nicholas, who will also be
heard im 2 sketch entitled "The Baggage." The orchestrina, mies Signor A. P. Truda, will play supporting numbers. 3YA Selections A series of talks on "Treatment and Care of the Hair" commences to-night. The first lecture will be given this even-~ ing, the speaker being Mr. L. Brice. . The band programme has been. ar-. ranged by Mr. J. Noble, conductor of the Christchurch Municipal Band, which is now, under his direction, a much-improved organisation. The assisting vocalists will include Miss Au- z gusta Painter (soprano),.a. pupil of Mr. Arthur Lilly, A.R.C.O., who makes her first radio appearance to-night, Notes from 4YA 1 ISS MAE MATHBSON, soprano, will sing at 4YA this evening "Seenes that are Brightest" (from "Maritana"), and two solos from German’s "Merrie. ‘Dhgland." Miss Gwenda Burt, contralto, ° will present, in addition to -a' ballad: by. Kennedy-Fraser, two musical. ¢Omedy extracts, one from "Our’Miss Gibbs" and the other from "The. Belle of, New York." Miss Burt is one ofthe principals in the produetion- of "The. Belle of New York," tobe given. by the Dunedin Operatic Society. Godara’s "Angel's Guard Thee," and Harding’s" "Alyesbury. Ducks," will be two of Mr. ‘Cachemaille’s. items. ea 5 Cachemaille is the bass in ‘the. We known local quartet "The Majors,"\ and is the possessor of a broadcasting voice of ‘exceptional quality and perfect diction. Mr, Stuart Falconer, baritone of the Harmonists Quartet, also appéars on this programme. Galsworthy: is to be..introduced by Miss Marget Seelye, _ the eminent: elocutioniste, with a poem by that author, ‘entitled "The Kings." In this recital Galsworthy writes in a manner similar to that of Masefield, Poet Laureate, and his treatment of this subject. is of exceptional interest.
