4YA to Broadcast "Cairo"’
A Famous Stage Success HE principal feature attraction at 4YA next week will be the presentation of "Cairo," that "mosaic in Eastern musie and mime" made famous by Osear Asche. "Cairo" is an exceptionally fine play, and contains some beautiful descriptive music, true to the Orient. The radio presentation on Monday, March 31. will be given by the Majors Quartet, assisted by Miss Tui Northey and Miss Ethel Wallace. During the presentation Miss Northey will take the eharacter of Sharazad and will relate the story of the play against a background of incidental music. She will also recite the famous "Dance Poem" of Sharazad, which oecurs in the second act. This is accompanied by most sympathetic music. ‘he duleitone will be introduced for this oceasion, and on it will be played the dance numbers occurring in the piece. This play will last for an hour and a half. All the vocal items in "Cairo" will be presented, and most of the instrumental ones. The background of music which will be introduced will be provided by Miss Ethel Wallace and Mr. KirkBurnnand. The play is being produced under the direction of Mr. KirkBurnnand. Following "Cairo" as an extra ifem on the programme, Miss Tui Northey will give 2 one-character sketch entitled "Behind the Curtain." This very amusing sketch is the story of a lady, frightened but apparently brave, who holds a-conversation with a supposed intruder behind the curtains of her sitting room. The "intruder" turns out to be 2 pair of boots left behind by a careless husband.
