OBITUARY

MR. JOSEPH DRTJMM, DUNEDIN. v 1 0l L 1 Doceml)er 23 tlier e passed away at his residence, York ilace, an old and respected resident of Dunedin in the person . of Mr. Joseph Drumm. The deceased, who was horn in Ireland, came out to Victoria at an early age and m 1863 was attracted to New Zealand by the gold discoveries. Finding that the prospects on the diggings were not encouraging, he worked at his trade as a compositor m Invercargill, and later on in the principal centres in the Colony. Later he became printer of the Dunedin hveiung Star, a position he held for some years and afterwards became connected with the other leadina: papers of Dunedin. About 25 years ago he had an attack ■or rheumatic gout, from which he never fully recovered Some weeks ago he had a bad attack of his old enemy, and complications following, an operation was deemed necessary Tnougli he appeared to rally for a few days he gradually sank, and passed away peacefully at the age of <0 years. He is survived by his widow, two sons, and four daughters. The interment took place on Christmas Day at the Southern Catholic Cemetery, when the Rev. lather Coffey, Adm., officiated at the graveside.— R.l. P.
