Greymouth

(From our own correspondent.)

September 14

His LortdShip the Right Rev. Dr. Grimes is expected to arrive in Greymouth next Wednesday, and will administer 'the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. Patrick's Church on the following Sunday. There has lately arrived a beautiful baptismal font, which will adorn one of the 'porches abutting on the tower. The font is an excellent piece of workmanship, a smaller design to that set up in the Ohristchurch Cathedral. Both are of Oamaru stone, shaped by the hand of the same skilful artist. The, half-yearly meeting of the St. Oolumba Club was held last Monday" evening. The balance sheet showed the club to be in a very good position financially. The assets exceed the liabilities by £316 12s Id. The principal itemst of expenditure during the half-year were piano £50, library case £13 10s, and secretary's desk £5. The club members have every reason to be proud of their position. At.St. Patrick's Church last Sunday the Very Rev. Dean Carew referred in highly eulogistic terms to the valuable services of Mr. M. Guthrie who, for the past eighteen years, has been choirmaster and one of the foremost workers in financially assisting the parish. After evening devotions a meeting of the congregation waS held and a committee appointed to take measures to fitly recognise his good work. It was decided to tender Mr. Guthrie a complimentary social at the Opera House prior to his departure for Wellington. At the social the guest of the evening will also be the recipient of valedictory presentations from the congregation,, choir, and other Catholic institutions of Greymauth.
