(From our own correspondent.)

At thd meeting of the Catholic Debating Society on August 29 the 'programme consisted of a debate on the question, ' Should the Hokitika Harbor Board sell their reserves ?' Mr. MaJher led on the affirmative side and Mr. M. Daly supported the negative contention. The debate was a most interesting one, very strong arguments being brought forward on both sides. The negative side won by a narrow majority. One new member was elected. The question discussed at t/he meeting; of the society on September 5 was, ' Which was the better route fofl a road to the Wilberforce reefs, that of Arahura or by! the St/yx ? ' Mr. Sellers, sen., spoke for the former, whilst Mr. H. Bock supported the latter. A

very keen and instructive debate was the result, and the* meeting decided in favor of the Arahura route on the casting vote of the chairman. The usual mooting of the Catholic Debating Society was held on September 12. The evening was devoted to discussing "questions submitted to members' through the medium of the ' Question Box.' The topics embraced the leading questions of the day.
