ENGLAND OR BRITAIN?

To The Editor, "The Listener" Sir-The letter to the editor in your issue of date November 10th-"England or Britain?"-by Geo. Falconer, is in every sense a justifiable correction. It is amazing to find how often, and by how many authorities-politicians, editors, and public speakers -this error in phraseology is made. I hold there is absolutely no excuse for this lapse. England is but a part of Great Britain, and this slighting of the other nations which have helped to make Britain "Great" is an insult to those nations. The sarcasm embodied in the editorial note following the letter is altogether uncalled for and uneditorial. Yours, etc.,

D.
