THANKS FOR: CLASSICAL MUSIC
To The Editor, "The Listener" Sir,-Listeners to classical music must surely be grateful to the National Broadcasting Service for the classical music programmes broadcast day after day, and night after night, for their entertainment. Sonatas, trios, quartets, and pianoforte recitals all have their turn, and one particularly interesting diversion from the more conservative renderings was the recent performance of some of Handel’s compositions on :the instruments that were originally intended to be used for this music. A word of appreciation, too, should be added to The Listener for its classified lists of weekly programmes, and its efficient middle-page section, " What would you like to hear?" Radio listeners are fortunate in being so well looked after by the Service and its enterprising Journal, which will, no doubt, become more important in the home each week. Yours, etc.,
Petone, November 22, 1939.
