These amounts are not to be paid as an allowance, but all expenditure shall be subject to the production of supporting vouchers. Payment should lie made to the Chaplain, or, if no Chaplain is borne, to the officer superintending the school-work. DESERTERS. (i. A person who deserts Iroin the Naval Service shall forfeit all active pay, allowances, and deferred pay due to him to the date of desertion, and shall forfeit all past service for the purposes of furlough, of good-conduct badges, and long-service and good-conduct medal. The Naval Authority may in the case of recovered deserters in special circumstances approve of the restoration of any portion of the pay, allowances, deferred pay, or service forfeited by the act of desertion. The Captain is to cause the clothes and effects of a deserter to be delivered into the charge of the Accountant Officer, together with an inven tory signed by two or more persons. After the expiration of three months from the date of desertion the Captain shall authorize the clothes and effects of a deserter to be sold on board by auction. Rewards for arrest of deserters shall be paid as follow : — Up to a limit of £1 for a straggler. Up to a limit of £5 for a deserter or presumed deserter. The amount of the reward, within above limits ; shall be at the discretion of the officer issuing the warrant, and shall, together with any expenses incidental to arrest, be charged by the Accountant Officer against the pay of the deserter or straggler earned subsequently to arrest. PURCHASE OF DISCHARGE. 7. Petty Officers, seamen, ami others below the rank of Warrant Officer shall be permitted, subject to the approval of the Naval Authority, to purchase their discharge on the following terms : — (a.) Up to but not exceeding one month from date of first entry, £10. (i>.) After one month, but not exceeding three months, from date of first entry, £20. (c.) After three months from date of first entry — (i.) Boys under eighteen years of age, £40. (ii.) Men— (1.) Up to three years' service since date of engagement, £48. (2.) Over three years' and up to six years' service since date of engagement, £36. (3.) Over stx years' service since date of engagement, £24. Time served as boy shall not be allowed to count as "' service " under (ii). (tl.) After re-engagement — (1.) Up to four years' service since date of re-engagement, (2.) Over four years' service since date of re-engagement, £8. Service must be actual service in receipt of wages, as recorded on the service certificate. In special circumstances the Naval Authority may approve of the discharge of a rating without payment of purchase-money, or may reduce the amount of perchase-money required by the above scale. TRAVELLING-ALLOWANCES. Scale of Travelling-allowances. 8. (1.) (a.) The following are the rates of travelling-allowances which may be drawn by members of the Naval Forces when travelling on duty :—
