No. 11. THE SUPERINTENDElVT OF NAPIEE TO THE DONOEABLE THE MTNISTEE FOE NATIVE AFFAIES, AUCKLAND. Superintendent's Office, Napier, April 23rd, 1863. Sib, — 1 should feel much obliged if you would permit Major Whitmore to be appointed a Commissioner to assist in adjusting certain claims and matters of account pending between the Provinces of Wellington and Hawke's Bay. Pending your approval, I have taken upon myself to insert Major Whitmore's name in an Act of the Provincial Council passed on the 14th instant; and I trust, as the duty will not interfere materially with his avocations as Civil Commissioner, that you will sanction the appointment. I enclose herewith a copy of the Act. T have, &c, Donald McLean, Superintendent. The Honorable the Minister for Native Affairs, Auckland.

No. 12. THE HONOEABLE TUS COLONIAL 8ECEETAET TO THE SUPEBlNTEJfDENT OF NAPIEE. Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 9th June, 1863. Sib — I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 23rd April, and in reply, to inform your Honor that there is no objection on the part of the General Government to the appointment of Major Whitmore as Commissioner to assist in adjusting certain claims and matters of account pending between the Provinces of Wellington and Hawke's Bay. No. 13. THE SUPERINTENDENT OF WELLINGTON TO THE HONORABLE THE COLONIAL SECEETAET. Superintendent's Office, Wellington, 2nd April, 1863. Sib — I do myself the honor to request that you will be pleased to cause the sum of Twelve hundred and fifty pounds, due from the Province of Hawke's Bay on account of interest on the permanent debt of the original Province of Wellington, to be paid to the Provincial Treasurer with as little delay as possible. The amount required to pay the half-yearly dividends due in London on the 1st July next, will be remitted by me by the mail leaving here on the 11th instant. I have, &c, I. E.
