RECESS EDUCATION COMMITTEE (REPORT OF THE, ON THE EDUCATION AMENDMENT BILL.) (Rev. C. L. CARR, Chairman.)

ORDER OF REFERENCE. Extract from the, Journals of the House of Representatives. Tuesday, the 15th Day of Mabch, 1938. Ordered, " That the Education Committee have power to sit during the recess and for fourteen days after the commencement of the next session at such times as the Committee may see fit, with power to consider the principles and provisions of the Education Amendment Bill to be introduced this session, both generally and in relation to the principal Act: the Committee to report to the House before the expiration of fourteen days after the commencement of next session, and to have power meantime, where it thinks fit so to do, to advise the Government from time to time on any of the aforementioned matters."—(Hon. Mr. Fbasek.)

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Recess Education Committee at its final meeting unanimously passed a resolution placing on record its appreciation of the care and ability with which the Chairman, Rev. Clyde Carr, had conducted the proceedings of the Committee ; and directed that the resolution be reported to the House. W. A. Bodkin, Member of the Committee. 7th July, 1938.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Recess Education Committee, by resolution, placed on record its appreciation of the capable manner in which the Clerk, Mr. M. S. Pasley, carried out his duties in connection with the Committee ; and directs that the resolution be reported to the House. C. R. Petrie, Member of the Committee. 7th July, 1938.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Recess Education Committee have heard extensive evidence on the Education Amendment Bill, 1937, and, after a careful consideration of its provisions, approve of the principles embodied in the Bill. The Committee have referred the matter to the Government and recommend that the Bill be reintroduced this session, with such alterations, amendments, and modifications as are suggested by the proceedings before the Committee.
