ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 14th Day of July, 1938. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters relating to school teachers, education, and public instruction generally, public-school training of teachers, higher education, technical education, manual instruction, and such other matters affecting education as may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Atmore, Mr. Bodkin, the Rev. Mr. Carr, Mr. Dickie, Mr. Herring, Mr. McCombs, the Rev. Mr. Nordmeyer, Mr. Petrie, Mr. Smith, and the Mover." —(Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Friday, the 15th Day of July, 1938. Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1937-38 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Savage.) Monday, the 12th Day of September, 1938. Ordered, " That the Education Amendment Bill be referred to the Education Committee."-—(Hon. Mr. Fraser.)

REPORTS. No. 157/1937-38. —Petition of Nellie Jacobson. Praying for additional compensation in respect of a property acquired by the Crown for educational purposes. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 11th August, 1938.
No. 169/1937-38. —Petition of Catherine Lavery. Praying that her total service with the Education Department be treated as continuous for the purposes of superannuation. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 11th August, 1938.
No. 119/1932.—Petition of W. Stirling. Praying for recognition of back service for the purpose of superannuation. I have the honour to report that the member in charge of the petition having expressed a desire to withdraw same, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. 11th August, 1938.
No. 78/1936. —Petition of Jessie J. M. Macintosh. Praying that her total period of service with the Education Department be counted for superannuation purposes on payment of back contributions. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 24th August, 1938.
No. 204/1932. —Petition of V. J. Gamble and 4 Others. Praying for recognition of back service for the purpose of superannuation. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 24th August, 1938.
No. 31. —Petition of Christina Goodridge. Praying for compensation for alleged wrongful dismissal from the Education Service. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 13th September, 1938.
Education Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee has carefully considered the Education Amendment Bill, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed without amendment. Rev. Clyde Carr, Chairman. 13th September, 1938.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee desires to record its appreciation of tub care and ability with which the Chairman, Rev. Clyde Carr, has conducted the business of the Committee during the session ; and it also desires that this resolution shall be recorded on the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. H. Atmore, Member of the Committee. 14th September, 1938.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee desires to record its appreciation of the capable manner in which the Clerk, Mr. M. S. Pasley, has discharged his various duties during the session; and it also desires that this resolution shall be recorded on the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. T. H. McCombs, Member of the Committee. 14th September, 1938.
Final Report. The Education Committee, consisting of ten members, has held four meetings during the session, with an average attendance of six members. Seven petitions were referred to the Committee ; of these, six were considered and reported on to the House. One petition is held over until next session. The Committee considered and reported on to the House the Education Amendment Bill. Rev. Clyde Carr, Chairman. 14th September, 1938.
