RED CROSS SOCIETY
OKOROIRE SUB-CENTRE The monthly meeting of the Okoroire sub-centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society was held in the hall recently. Sewing was carried on by members throughout the meeting, and many garments were completed. The executive and members of the sub-centre received with sincere regret a letter from their president, Mrs Lewis Watkins, that, owing to her recent serious accident, she felt it her duty to resign from the office of branch president. This resignation was accepted with unanimous expressions of sympathy, and the meeting placed on record the genuine interest, energy and helpfulness of Mrs Watkins . Mrs McLaren was eelcted president, and look the chair. An interesting demonstration of the preparation of wool for spinning was given by Mrs Atkinson, of Wellington. There were also on display many knitted and woven articles made from the linished wool. An earnest appeal was made by Mrs McLaren for contributions to the sales table held at the monthly meetings. A sewing meeting in connection with the sub-centre is held fortnightly, next being on November 14. A large parcel of hospital comfor-ts and new garments for evacuees was handed in lor despatch to Hamilton, and also knitted articles for the patriotic appeal branch of work. For the Lady Galway Guild a large parcel of warm clothing was sent to the receiving office at Rotorua. An enjoyable afternoon tea was . served by lViesdames Le Lievre and Martin.
