TOWN AMENITIES
AUTHORITY GIVEN BOARD OF HEALTH INQUIRY COUNCIL MAY RAISE £12,500 The Hamilton Borough Council is authorised to raise £12,500 for the purpose of providing sewer extensions and public conveniences, according to a communication from the secretary of the Board of Health Committee of Inquiry, Mr C. J. Drake, read at the borough council meeting last night. Writing from Wellington on November 14, the secretary said the special committee appointed by the Board of Health, which had conducted public hearings in Hamilton some weeks ago, had now delivered its report to the board. The latter authority had decided to approve expenditure by the borough council of £IO,OOO on sewer extensions in the borough, and also an expenditure of £2500 on the provision of public conveniences.
The board had authorised the issue of a requisition for these amounts, but until the formal requisitions arrived the borough council could take any necessary steps to commence the work. It was stated by the Board of Health, said the letter, that it was not in its power to authorise expenditure for provision of a lounge and tearoom as proposed.
