FALL IN HAMILTON NEARLY TWO INCHES RECORDED Despite the fact that nearly two inches of rain had been recorat. for the previous 48 hours, the fall showed no signs of abating yesterday and from y a.m. to 6 p.m. yesterday 1.57 inches of rain was registered. Sharp heavy showers were experienced throughout last night, and at 9 a.m. this morning 1.99 inches had fallen during the previous 24 hours. The much cooler conditions ruling following the rain are being appreciated, as very warm conditions have been prevailing for some time past. An unusual occurrence was experienced yesterday when the temperature last night was practically on a par with the day readings. The thermometer yesterday at 66 degrees and last night 65 degrees. Slip On Roadway When a slip occurred in the gully on the Te Aroha side of Morrinsville, where the approaches to the new bridge are under construction, a large horse float became anchored in the soft going and traffic from both directions had to be deviated via Kereone. The float was later extricated and traffic resumed its normal schedule. Other minor slips occurred on the highway between Paeroa and Hamilton but fortunately were not of sufficient dimensions to hinder traffic, which was heavy yesterday on account of the races at Paeroa.
