LOCAL BODY POLLS
VOTING ON SATURDAY The intention of the Government to introduce during the present session of Parliament legislation to provide for the holding of local body elections on a Saturday is announced by the Labour newspaper, the Standard. If this is done this yearis local body elections will be held on Saturday. May 17, instead of on Wednesday, May 14. The matter of voting by State tenants on loan or rating proposals is also to be dealt with in the contemplated legislation. Racehorse Raffled The patriotic art union for the yearling colt War Effort has been won by Mr C. West, of Kaponga, near Eltham. His winning ticket was No. 4413. The drawing was conducted yesterday in the offices of the Patriotic Fund Board. The art union will result in approximately £2IBO going fo the Patriotic Funds.
