TE AROHA NEWS

ANNUAL CROQUET TOURNEY The annual tournament of the Te Aroha Croquet Club was opened last Wednesday in ideal weather. This tournament is one of the most popular held by a small centre and each year larger entries are received. This year teams are competing from Auckland, Hamilton, Ellerslie, Huntly, Thames, Ngaruawahia, Te Awamutu, Putaruru, Rotorua, Matangi, Morrinsville, Arapuni, Matangi, Morrinsville, Waiuku and Waihi. The two principal events are the championship singles for the Meikle Cup, and the handicap singles for the Hart Cup. The managers of the tournament are Mesdames Goldsbury and Meikle. The proceeds are to be used for patriotic purposes. The competitions opened with the handicap doubles and some of the results are as follows:—Mesdames Dunn and Manuel beat Mesdames Johnson and Wainwright; Mesdames Robinson and Gollan beat Mesdames Ryalls and Notley; Mesdames Boot and Hogg beat Mesdames Rundle and Davies; Mesdames Willis and Clarke beat Mesdames Morison and Leek; Mesdames Powell and Dan by beat Mes-. dames Todd and Paterson; Mesdames Borrie and Wainwright beat Mrs Clevely and Miss Johnsone; Mesdames Manuel and Dunn beat Mesdames Buchan and Crawford; Mesdames Johnson and Wainwright beat Mesdames Ryalls and Notley; Mesdames Willis and Clark beat Mesdames Boot and Hogg; Mesdames Carlton and Luke beat Mesdames Ruston and Scott, Mrs Wilson and Miss Wilson beat Mesdames Wright and Codings. COMING-OF-AGE DANCE A pleasant evening was spent recently when Mr and Mrs McGregor, of Te Aroha, held a dance in the Parish Hall to celebrate the coming-of-age of their eldest daughter, Joan, and to announce her engagement to Mr S.
