TRAPPED IN WHARE
BURNT TO DEATH ELDERLY MAORI’S FATE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday A Maori, Henare Nakihi Apimereka, aged 79 years, was burnt to death last night when a small ponga whare, in which he lived on the Egmont Road two miles from New Plymouth, was destroyed by fire. A son, who lives in a house at the front of the whare, smelt smoke and found the whare almost burnt out. The victim’s watch had stopped at 4 a.m.
