PRICE OF TIMBER
RISE PASSED ON (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday An increase of approximately Is 6d per hundred super feet in the prices of timbers such as oregon and redwood, imported from the United States and Canada, now in force, represents the increase in prices charged in the exporting countries as well as \he higher freight rates and war risk insurance. Last month the price of timber from the west coast of New Zealand was also increased by 5d per hundred super feet and there was a simultaneous rise of 2£ per cent in freight rates. Both increases have been passed on to the users of timbers. There are now no regular shipments from the West Coast, but supplies in Wellington at present are said to be satisfactory.
