APPRAISAL OF WOOL FIXTURE POSTPONED OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWERS The postponement of the season’s first wool appraisal from Monday to next Thursday, announced by the Auckland Woolbrokers’ Association last night, will give Waikato growers an opportunity to send further wool forward. The unfavourable weather at the beginning of this month delayed shearing operations in the district, with the result that only limited quantities of Waikato wool have been so far despatched to Auckland. The Woolbrokers’ Association is anxious that growers should send forward as much wool as possible for the apraisal because of Britain’s appeal for early despatch. Only wool from the dry sheep and hoggets has been sent from the Waikato, but shearing of the main flocks has been commenced by some growers, and it is apparent that the Auckland catalogue will be made up of more of this wool than if the appraisal began on Monday. The mild winter and the favourable early spring conditions have resulted in the quality of the wool being generally above the usual standard. The importance of skirting in the shearing shed has again been stressed.
