WAIKATO LYCEUM CLUB
LITERARY CIRCLE EVENING A successful “open” evening was recently organised by the Literary Circle of the Lyceum Club in the lounge, when an enjoyable and varied programme was presented for the entertainment of the many members present. ' Miss Bell, the convener of the ! circle, welcomed the guests and gave 1 a brief outline of the evening's programme, which was commenced by charming vocal solos by Mrs J. D. M. Foreman, accompanied by Mrs E. R. Gresham. A one-act play, “Little Glass Houses,” by Phillip Johnson and Howard Agg, a comedy of Victorian manners, followed, this being excellently read by Mrs T. P. Weatherhog, Mrs F. Bullock, Mrs S. N. Ziman, Mrs Clive Henry and Miss Lindsay Kendrick. An original “book” competition provided an amusing interlude, and was followed by delightful pianoforte solos by Miss Annette Gillies. “Be Sure Your Sex Will Find You Out,” by Muriel and Sidney Box, was the title of the second play read by Mrs T. P. Weatherhog, Mrs C. L. Mac Diarmid, Mrs F. Bullock, Mrs J. D. M. Foreman, Mrs Clive Henry, Miss G. Perkins (Cambridge), and Miss Lindsay Kendrick. Before the serving of a delicious supper, Mrs R. B. Cranwell, in the absence of the president, Mrs Hugh Douglas, warmly thanked the Literary Circle for a pleasant evening. Those present were:—Mesdames F. Bullock, C. L. Mac Diarmid, L. Coldwell, R.
