WOMEN’S GOLF

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS ONE-DAY OPEN TOURNAMENT The weather was good and the links were in splendid order for the champion of cnainpions competition and one-day open tournament which took piace on the St. Andrews links last Wednesday. The entry of eight champions from South Auckland ciu'os was very satisfactory considering the difficulties of travelling just now, and it was also very gratifying to have such a large entry of visitors for the open tournament. Mrs McDonald, who played as champion of both the Hamilton and Te Awamutu clubs, proved her golfing ability j by annexing the champion’s cup for I tne second year in succession and the fourth time since this competition was inaugurated in 1934. Her two gross rounds of 82 and 81 were up a) true championship standard. Mrs Bennett, of Lochiel, who came second, j also deserves praise for her cards j oL 83 and 86, as she plays on a 10 | oandicap in club events. Miss N. | Beverley, who came in third, with t iounds of 84 and 86, found our greens j rather light after her home course, ■ Matamata.

Open Tournament In the open tournament the outstanding senior medal was returned by Mrs V. D. Edwards (Hamilton), who played tour strokes under her handicap to card 85 —17 —68. In the senior btableiord bogey Mrs Glanville (Te Awamutu) turned in a great card of 77 gross, which, with her handicap of 6, gave her 33 points and an easy victory. Mrs Powell (Matamata) carded 19 points going out, but was unable to keep up the pace on the homeward run and finished with 53 points. In the juniors Mrs Signal (Hamilton) had a big day. In the medal she played two strokes under her handicap of 24 to annex the trophy, and in the afternoon she played 4 strokes under her reduced handicap to return a Stableford of 37 points and prove again the winner. Other juniors who played well were Mesdames Dingle, McCullagh and Qualtrough in the morning, and Mrs Hall (Docniel) and Mrs Oliphant in the J afternoon. I T r' IT Mrwlol
