HALL DESTROYED

USED FOR PICTURES EARLY MORNING FIRE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Thursday Lawson’s Hall at Tuatapere, which was used tri-weekly for pictures and dances, was completely destroyed by fire early this morning. Only the brick walls have been left standing. Two shops in front were also gutted. One was occupied by Miss Hannan as a fruit and confectionery shop, the other being empty. The adjoining shop, occupied by Mrs Duncan, was saved by good work by a bucket brigade, though it was badly scorched. The insurances on the hall are in the Commercial, Union Company for £2BOO, and the State Fire for £I2OO, while the fittings are insured by the State Company for £2OO. Miss Hannah’s stock is insured in the State Fire Office for £l5O, and Mr Duncan’s stock in the same office for £3OO.
