£12,500 SENT

RELIEF IN LONDON SICK AND WOUNDED FEND £25.000 FOR N.Z. TROOPS Reference was made in an interview today by Mr C. G. Hunt, a joint-organiser of the Waikato queen carnival campaign for the raising of patriotic funds, to the misapprehension which seemed to exist regarding the disposal of funds recently raised during the sick, wounded, and distress campaign in New Zealand. He stated that he had obtained official information from Wellington that £12,500 from the fund had already been forwarded to London for the relief of distress arising from the German bombing. An additional £20,000 had been forwarded to England for the care of the sick and wounded of New Zealand’s forces stationed in Britain, and £SOOO had been despatched to Egypt for similar purposes. In addition to those cash allotments, a vast quantity of first aid and hospital equipment had been consigned to the war zones for sick and wounded New Zealand combatants. In order to conserve the fund as much as possible, material for this equipment had been purchased by the Joint Council of the Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John and distributed to the Various branches of each organisation. Then the material had been made into the many articles at no extra cost to the general fund.
