HAPPINESS CLUB DANCE A very enjoyable and successful dance was held by the Ngaruawahia members of the Happiness Club in the Town Hall on Friday evening. “•Joan” and the visitors from Auckland and Hamilton were present. Music was supplied by Mr Matangi’s orchestra with items by Mr Inia Te Wiata. Mr J. T. Holt was master of ceremonies. The hall was very attractively arranged with multi - coloured streamers, nikau fronds and spring flowers. The supper tables were very dainty with vases of Iceland poppies and smilax. The guest-of-honour wore black panne velvet. Among those present were:—Mesdames C. Quintal, A. G. Weld, J. T. Holt, K. Andersen, Williamson (Taupiri), Martin (Hamilton), W. Smith, C. J. GARDEN PARTY A very enjoyable and successful garden party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. Smith, Wallace Road, Ngaruawahia, when £ls was raised towards the soldiers’ Christmas parcels. Mr A. Smith, in a brief speech, introduced Mr W. Paterson, chairman of the Ngaruawahia Patriotic Council, who spoke of the splendid work the ladies of Wallace Road had done. He then introduced Mrs H. C. Ross, of Hamilton, who declared the party open. Bouquets were presented to Mrs Ross and Mrs W. Paterson by little Barbara Mail and Frances Smith. Miss Irene Farrelly acted as secretary for the afternoon. Competitions were won by Mesdames E. Cavanagh, D. Skewes. Ambler, Williamson, Heather Williamson, Miss I Farrelly. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn by Mrs B. Mail and the Misses Speedy.
