24 NEW CASES
MEASLES AT WEEK-END EPIDEMIC AT HOPU HOPU The measles epidemic among the troops which spread to Hopu Hopu early last week is developing through the camp rapidly. During the week-end 24 cases were admitted to the Waikato Hospital special soldiers’ annexe at the new Hamilton West primary school, all of these, with the exception of one or two, having been admitted from Hopu Hopu. Eighty soldiers are now in the special annexe being treated for measles, despite the fact that several from Te Rapa have been discharged in the last few days. The indications are now that the Te Rapa camp is practically clear of the epidemic. Only three cases have been reported from the Claudelands military camp since the epidemic became prevalent among the troops.
It is understood that there is no need, in the meantime at least, to isolate the Hopu Hopu camp, and according to present plans the mobilsation of the recruits of the Fourth Reinforcemnets of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force will proceed on Thursday.
