WOMEN’S GOLF

CAPTAIN’S TROPHY The first round of play for the Captain’s Trophy, two rounds of bogey eclectic, took place on the St. Andrew’s links last Wednesday. The weather was perfect and the links j were in good order, although lack ; of rain has made the greens a little faster than is usual at this time of ; year. The scoring, except in a few ! cases, was not outstanding. The best round of the day was done by j Mrs Morrison, who returned a card \ of 94 gross on a 26 handicap, being j 1 up on bogey and reducing her handicap by 4 strokes. Mrs Morrison started the season on the 34 maik and is to be congratulated on her steadily improved play, a reduction of 12 strokes in handicap constituting something of a record. Mrs Mander did a good round of 83 gross, which on her 4 handicap, brought her in 3 down on bogey, this score being equalled by Miss A. Wilson, a week-end player who plays on the 14 mark. Next came Mrs Seyb, Mrs Edwards. Mrs Beattie, and Mrs Thomas, who were all 4 down, while eight competitors returned cards of 5 down. Eclectic competitions are always very open and with so many players in the running, the finish of the competition next Wednesday should be very interesting. C Grade Competitions j In the C grade competitions Mrs IMeltzer was the winner last Wednesday, and Mrs Salway collected the trophy this Wednesday. The Horton Cup competition is now jnearinrr the final stage. Playing last Monday in not very good weather conditions, Mrs S. Bennett J defeated Mrs Thomas, after a very i hard fought match in the semi-finals, j 3 up and 1. Both players have lately reduced their handicaps, j and both played right on to their j new handicaps to stage one of the best matches of the season. In the 1 other semi-final Mrs Beattie meets j Mrs Signal. In the consolation competition Mrs Hilton had an easy win in the semi-final from Mis Morrison by 5 up and three, while on j the other half Miss P. Wilson meets ! Mrs F. H. Taylor. j On Thursday, October 10. the ! Loehiel Ladies’ Club are holding !an open day on their links. This | should prove a most enjoyable event j as the links are much improved and 1 no effort is being spared to make the day a success. Transport is being arranged by bus from Hamilj ton for those who desire it. We wish the Loehiel Club good entries and a most successful day.
