LAMPS BROKEN
TRAFFIC BRIDGE DAMAGE OVERHANG FROM VEHICLES A suggestion that the lamp standards on the Hamilton traffic bridge should be placed in a safer position to avoid breakages was made by the electrical engineer, Mr I. Webster, in a report received at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last night. Damage was frequently being caused to the lighting fittings and lamps on the bridge by the overhang of trucks, buses, etc, coming into contact with the steel standards on the hand rail. At present two of the special glass reflectors were broken and replacements could not be obtained owing to war conditions.
The approximate cost of the reflectors was £3 and the mercury vapour lamps cost 36s each. Other globes were put in but they were also broken.
On the motion of the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, the matter was referred to the works committee.
