NEW POST OFFICE OCCUPIED IN NOVEMBER STATEMENT BY MINISTER Steady progress having been made during the last few months, Hamilton’s new three-storey -post office is nearing completion, and with the final stages of the work well in hand it is expected that it will be ready for occupation in November. A statement to this effect was made by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. P. C. Webb, to Mr C. A. Barrell, M.P. for Hamilton to-day. Constructed in reinforced concrete, at a contract price of £69,475, by Messrs W. B. Young, Limited, the building was started in August, 1938, and makes provision for post and telegraph, savings bank, physical welfare and other Government departments. The building is up-to-date in every respect and will considerably facilitate the department’s work in the Hamilton postal district. When the new building is occupied the existing one will be handed over for use by other Government departments. The Minister said that on account of the proposed reorganisation of the railway station and yards at Frankton Junction and Hamilton, it would probably be necessary for the Post and Telegraph Department’s garage, workshop and store building at Frankton to be -removed, as the site was involved in the proposals. The question of securing another suitable site was under consideration.
