Mr W. Inskip, of Hamilton, is in Auckland.
Mr H. M. Peirson, Pig Extension Officer, Wellington, is visiting Hamilton.
Mr C. A. Barrell, M.P. for Hamilton, is in Auckland for a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board. He will travel to Wellington tonight.
Messrs S. Williamson (Feilding), H. S. Wheeler, E. P. Bint (Auckland) and J. Lythgoe (Hawera) are at the Hamilton Hotel.
Mr L. A. Tracy, of Wellington, has been appointed to the New Zealand Boxing Council as treasurer, filling the vacancy caused by the death of Mr E. A. Dawson.
Mr F. G. Farrell has been nominated unopposed as president of the Automobile Association (Auckland) for a fifth term, and the appointment will be confirmed at the annual meeting.
Mr H. D. Caro, Mayor of Hamilton and Mr W. L. Waddel, Town Clerk, were in Auckland last night for a meeting of the Provincial Patriotic Council.
Mr S. H. Sofield, of Hamilton, has been appointed house manager at the Grey Hospital, Greymouth, from a large number of applicants. Mr Sofield is at present assistant-house manager at the Waikato Hospital.
Dr. J. H. Gilbert, dean of the faculty of social science at Oregon University, United States, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Monterey yesterday. He is to make a study of taxation in New Zealand with particular attention to land taxation.
Captain A. H. Andrews, New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps, an exAll Black footballer and an old boy of New Plymouth High School, has been promoted to the rank of major, the promotion to date as from August 1. Major Andrews is the son of Mr and Mrs L. H. Andrews, Okato.
Sir Ernest Roberts, Chief Justice of the High Court In Burma, arrived at Auckland by the Monterey from Sydney on a short holiday visit to New Zealand. Sir Ernest was appointed to the post of Chief Justice from the English Bar about four years ago. Between 1924 and 1929 he was a Conservative member of the House of Commons for Flintshire.
Mr A. Dorati, a distinguished Austrian conductor, was a through passenger in the Monterey which reached Auckland yesterday. Mr. Dorati has been acting as a guest conductor for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in symphony concerts and has also conducted for the Russian Ballet during a tour of all States. After fulfilling United States engagements, he will probably return to Australia.
