26th REUNION

HIGH SCHOOL OLD GIRLS SUCCESSFUL FUNCTIONS HELD Marking the twenty-sixth year since the formation of the association, the annual re-union celebrations of the Hamilton High School Old Girls held on Saturday were very largely attended by girls from far and near, and the popularity of these functions was evidenced by the very happy spirit of goodfellowship abroad. Proceedings commenced in the early afternoon with the annual meeting held at the school, at which the president, Mrs A. P. Nelson, presided over a particularly large attendance. Following a welcome from the president to those present, the annual report for the year 1939-1940 was read by the secretary, Mrs W. Godfrey. This showed the year to have been a very busy one, a strong feature being the enthusiastic support of old girls outside the committee. Regret was expressed at the resignation of the patron of the association, Mrs Eben Wilson, who had held the position since 1914, and Mrs H. D. Tait was welcomed as patron in her place. The report commented on the satisfactory result of the activities of the knitting circle, and the success of various functions held to augment patriotic funds. Congratulations were tendered to old girls who have joined the V.A.D. and the W.A.V.C., many of whom have been successful in obtaining their certificates. In concluding her report, Mrs Nelson thanked all who had helped the associati'an durin.g the year, “when the dark clouds of war have tended to overshadow the interests of the association. Nevertheless, it is generally at such a time that the worth-while aims and objects of any group come to the fore, and our old girls’ association has not been found wanting. The war effort needs our loyalty to our King and country, our enthusiasms for a just cause and our energy to overcome the forces of evil, but let us not neglect our association, which can be a force for good.” Appreciation of the services rendered by the secretary and committee was expressed, and the presentation of the balance sheet showed a satisfactory position. Officers Elected The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs W. Godfrey; vice-presidents, Mrs E. Browne, Mrs H. McFarlane, Mrs J. Sullivan; secretary and treasurer, Miss Elspeth McNicol; assistant secretary, Mrs J. Godfrey, then spoke very warmly of the solendid work of the retiring president, Mrs A. P. Nelson, the meeting passing a very hearty vote of thanks. At the conclusion of the meeting afternoon tea was served in the corridor, where the tables had been attractively arranged with bowls of spring flowers, freesips and Iceland poppies. Mrs Nelson received the guests wearing a smart black ensemble and a black felt hat.
