BACK TO WORK
MINERS ON MONDAY MEETING HELD AT HUNTLY PLANS FOR CONCILIATION (Special to Times) HUNTLY, Saturday As a result of a meeting of miners in Huntly today with Mr C. L. Hunter, Labour Department liaison officer, the miners of the Glen Afton and MacDonald Collieries will terminate the strike and return to work in the mines on Monday. The dispute involved about 400 miners. Plans have been made for the dispute to be dealt with by a National Disputes Committee which the miners desire to be established. Last week the men at the MacDonald mine went out on strike owing to a dispute over wet-time payment, but they returned to work after three days. On Wednesday last, however, the men struck again and the following day the miners employed at the Glen Afton mine struck in sympathy. The meeting today addressed by Mr Hunter was attended by about 250 miners from the MacDonald and Glen Afton mines. The position was discussed for two hours, during which time Mr Hunter received a very good hearing. When a resolution was put to the meeting it was agreed unanimously that a national disputes committee should be set up as soon as possible to deal with the matter in dispute, and other points of difference which might arise.
