SITE INDEFINITE

WAIKATO REGIMENT CAMP TE RAPA OR CAMBRIDGE One result of the outbreak of measles among troops in the Waikato district is that it has rendered indefinite the site for the camp of the Ist Battalion, 16th Waikato Regiment, the territorial infantry unit which will be fully mobilised at war strength on October 1. It had been decided to put the 700 members of the unit under canvas at the Te Rapa racecourse until the Waiouru camp was in readiness for the men to be transferred for advanced training. The outbreak of measles and the use of the Te Rapa racecourse as an isolation camp for about 600 troops of the third echelon of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force has disorganised the plans. It is indefinite how long the echelon soldiers will remain under canvas at Te Rapa. % An alternative site has been selected for the camp of the Waikato Regiment which will be used if Te Rapa is not available on October 1. That is the Cambridge racecourse which was used just before the outbreak of war as a territorial camp. It should be ideal for the purpose and has been chosen as the next most favourable site after Te Rapa.
