JERSEY BULL FAIR RECORD BUYING BENCH AVERAGE OF 57 A GUINEAS BEST AUCTION FOR YEARS Eighty bulls averaged 57£ gns and made a total of 4606 gns at the 18th National Jersey Bull Show and Sale at the Claudelands Showgrounds yesterday. Practically no passings were registered and very few entries sold below 40 gns, the sale on the whole being the best experienced in the Waikato for some years. The star lots made from 94 to 120 gns. The buying bench was a record for the Claudelands selling pavilion, accommodation being taxed. The sale was conducted by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., with Messrs C. E. Robertson and J. McCaw in the rostrum. Top price of the sale, 120 gns, was paid for the outstanding two-year-old bull, Oaklea Flag’s Raleigh, a son of' Beechlands Gold Dust and Cranbrook Aster, V.H.C. The vendor was the Melville breeder, Mr A. C. Smith, and the buyer Mr C. J. Lovegrove, of Auckland. The same vendor sold an attractive son of Beaulieu Sundown and Glenmore Peerless, H.C., in Oaklea Peer, to Mr S. Campbell, of Waihou, at 94 gns. For Waipiko Jolly Man, a two-year-old by Waipiko Acme from Waipiko Jolly Maid, Mr W. Y. Burgus, of Waitakururu, paid 115 gns. The vendor was Mr C. G. C. Dermer, of Cheltenham. Mr W. S. MeEwen, of Pukeroro, had several good yearling sons of the imported sire. Susie’s Oxford Design, on offer, one of them, Craigknoll Design’s Ajax bringing the bidding to 109 gns before it was knocked down to Mr J W. Blake, of Waimih*. Prices Above 100 Gns. Mr E. Sinclair, of Cheltenham, paid 108 gns for a yearling, Tuhii tarata Oxford Baron, a particularly i typey son of Soeurette Fern Oxford j (imported). The vendor was Mr J. 1 Jameson, of Mastertcn. The Waiuku breeder, Mr G. Yelchich. sold a ! yearling son of Ku Ku True Owler j in Velebit Emperor to Messrs Devicich Bros., of Ngahinapouri, at 110 j gns. For a grandson of the great I imported sire, Brampton Dreaming Sam, Mr J. Haskins, of Gisborne, paid 105 gns. Mrs J. R. Sheehan, of Papakura. was the last bidder at 115 gns on Tuhitarata Oxford Lark, a promising yearling son of the imported Soeurette Fern Oxford. Mr J. Jameson. , of Masterton, was the vendor.
