SALARY INCREASE
HOSPITAL BOARD STAFF NURSES TO BENEFIT All members of the staff of the
Waikato Hospital Board not covered by an award will receive an increase of 5 per cent in their salaries, as a result of a decision of the board today. The increase is designed to give non-union employees the same benefit as granted to employees cov- , ered by an award in the terms of the recent general order of the Arbitration Court. The board’s decision incorporates the nursing staff of the hospital. It was considered that while it was only fair to extend the benefit to employees not covered by an award, the board opposed the principle of wage increases, and it was resolved to protest strongly to the Government against the Arbitration Court order. The question of increasing board-ing-out allowances by 5 per cent was referred to the house and finance | committee for a report to be made < to the next meeting of the board, j Cost Extra £4154 The chairman of the board, Mr F. \ Findlay, stated that the payment of the compulsory 5 per cent increase to employees covered by an award would mean an additional annual cost to the board of £1965. General \ payment of the increase to all employees, irrespective of the extent of their salaries, as agreed to by the board, would involve an extra an- ! nual cost of £4154. It was on the motion of Mr T. G. - Reynolds that the board made it£ decision to grant all-round increases. Mr D. B. Livingstone moved, the resolution protesting against the | principle of wage increases.
