TE RAPA GALLOPS

BEAU REPAIRE HITS OUT HUM-A-SONG SHAPES WELL FIVE FURLONGS IN 1.6* (By “Martian”) The going on the No. 1 grass was dead and cutting out at Te Rapa this morning when a number of candidates for the Avondale meeting over the week-end were sent along. Several interesting trials were recorded, the best of the morning being those of Beau Repaire, Young Paddon, Ngawiri, Hum-a-Song and Commemoration. Beau Repaire (Ramsay), assisted over the first six furlongs by Marshall Hall (Hall), traversed seven in 1.36. They ran their first three furlongs in 38s, the half-mile in 52$s, five furlongs in 1.6£ and the six in 1.20£. Beau Repaire was always doing the better of the pair and pleased by the manner in which he was revelling in his work. Marshall Hall, who got his tongue over the bit, did not show to advantage. Beau Repaire is bearing a healthy appearance but will need firm going to give of his best at Avondale. Laughing Fox (Bartles) and Olympus (McKenzie) were associated over half-a-mile in 53 4-ss. The former, who was raced only lightly last season, has furnished into a fine stamp of three-year-old and interest will attach to his progress from now A Useful Effort A useful effort over five furlongs was credited to Hum-a-Song and Commemoration, who negotiated the distance in 1.65, running to the halfmile in 51 4-ss. Gaine’s Choice (Winder) and Aguilla (Hain) got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7, their first half-mile in 535. Gael (McGregor) ran once round in 2.14 4-5. The Nightly three-year-old in the Seifert stable dashed* over two furlongs along the back in 265. He is coming to hand well. Lornacre (Mclnally) ran to the half-mile in 55 4-ss. Poutama (McKenzie) was restricted to strong pace work on the sand. Gas Acre (Long) and Etcetera (Ensor) traversed a round in 2.5 2-5. The best half-mile of the morning was that of Young Paddon (O. Mclnally) who was shading Ngawiri (Ensor) in 51 I-ss. Young Paddon revelled in the going, while Ngawiri also pleased. Raceline, who is bearing a welltrained appearance, worked freely over a round.
