BRITISH WARSHIPS DAMAGED ANOTHER RAID ON MALTA RED CROSS PLANE ATTACKED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 4, 3.15 p.m.) ROME, Sept. 3 A comr*unique says: Italian divebombers boldly attacked an enemy naval formation in the Mediterranean, seriously damaging an air-craft-carrier, a battleship, a cruiser and a destroyer. Four enemy escort fighters were shot down. Simultaneously we bombed Malta. Three of our planes have not returned. An Italian rescue seaplane, carrying Red Cross markings, was machine-gunned while searching for planes which had fallen into the sea. We bombed enemy encampments and motorised forces near the Atbara River, in the Sudan. Enemy planes flew over northern Italian areas and bombed Genoa. Two civilians were killed and fifteen wounded. There was slight damage.
Anti-aircraft guns shot down three British pla'nes. Two others were probably destroyed.
