CONSULATES ATTACKED RUMANIAN RESENTMENT (United Press Assn Elec Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 4, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 3 The Bucharest correspondent of the American Press says rioting mobs broke into the Ger-
man consulate at Brasov and ripped up photographs of Hitler. The demonstrators are reported to have beaten up the Italian consul at Cluj. M. Chirta, ex-Minister of Agriculture, has been sent to gaol for an inflammatory speech. German motorised units are reported to be assuming guard of part of the Russian-Rumania frontier of southern Bukovina on September 15. which is two days after the Hungarian occupation of Northern Transylvania is scheduled for completion. Strong Reichswehr forces will also be supplemented by Italians as a gesture to Rumania. Defence Against Russia The first line of defence against further Russian penetration is being centred in the vicinity of Vatradornei. The Rumanian army will be retired to form the second line in the neighbourhood of Piatra. The Balkans correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that despite the prohibition of demonstrations against the Vienna agreement serious clashes between Rumanian and Hungarian troops are reported in many districts.
Four people were killed and 100 arrested in the Cluj demonstrations. Many people are reported to have been killed in Satumare and other towns near the frontier as a result of premature unofficial Hungarian attempts to occupy the ceded territory.
