RAIDS ON CONTINENT IMPORTANT WORKS HIT SUPPLY SHIPS BOMBED (Official Wireless) (Received Sept. 4, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 3 An Air Ministry communique states: New targets in Germany and Italy were attacked by aircraft of the Bomber Command last night. Dynamite works at Schlebusch, north-east of Cologne, and. the important railway junctions of San Pier and Darens at Genoa were bombed heavily. Other aircraft attacked an electric power station at Genoa, oil installations at Ludwighstafen and Frankfurt, a Bosch ignition plugs factory at Stuttgart (for the second night in succession), explosives works near Cologne, the Dortmund-Ems Canal, the French port of Lorient, and gun emplacements at Cap Gris Nez. Two of our aircraft were lost in these operations. Aircraft of the Coastal Command bombed supply ships at sea off the Dutch coast yesterday and another supply ship in a Norwegian harbour on the Sogne Fjord, and also forced down a Dornier flying-boat into the sea. Attacks were made on oil tanks at Flushing and on the harbour of Ostend. One aircraft has not returned. WARNINGS IN LONDON SIRENS ANNOUNCE RAID KING HOLDS INVESTITURE PRESENTATION OF V.C. Destruction of Raiders ! The Air Ministry announced that 23 enemy planes have been destroyed so far today. Fifteen of ours are missing, but eight of our pilots are safe. j The enemy crossed the south-east coast in considerable numbers and f dropped bombs in Kent and Essex. I There was little damage and few j casualties, some of which were fatal. ! Reports of yesterday’s actions show that 20 of our planes were lost, but ! ten pilots are safe.
