MAXIMUM OUTPUT
INDUSTRY IN WARTIME PART PLAYED BY COUNCIL (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday The work the Industrial Emergency Council since its appointment nearly a year ago was commended by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb. After reviewing the personnel of the council, which consists of employers and employees representatives, the Minister quoted more than dozen instances of important variations in industrial conditions brought about by the council. “I would like to express on behalf of the Government my sincere appreciation of the valuable work performed by the council, and the spirit of co-operation shown by all members, which enabled difficult problems to be overcome without friction and with the fullest desire to increase production, and at the same time protect the interests of those concerned,” said Mr Webb. “The council has appointed a subcommittee to which matters requiring detailed investigation are referred. This committee sits frequently and is putting a tremendous amount of time into its work at a very great sacrifice. At present several matters are receiving attention, all with a view to assisting in increasing output in our full war effort.” _____
