CHEAPER BEEF
VALUES AT FRANKTON HEAVY ENTRIES FORWARD An over-supply of beef at the Frankton stock sale to-day resulted in a further depreciation of values. Bidding for ox lacked enthusiasm and prices a head were generally 15s lower. Cows and heifers, however, did no£ show the same decline and the difference from last week was not very marked in some instances. A lighter entry of fat sheep was not of the same standard of quality as last week, but values over the early sales were fully firm. In a larger penning of fat pigs, baconers were more in evidence than for some weeks. Prices for baconers showed improvement, and late quotations for porkers were repeated. Quotations: Extra heavy prime bullocks, £l3 5s to £l4 10s; heavy, £ll 17s 6d to £l2 10s; light to medium £lO 5s to £ll 7s 6d; small, £8 to £9 6s; heavy prime cows and heifers, £lO 2s 6d to £ll 18s; heavy, £9 2s to £10; prime, £7 7s to £8 10s; fat, £6 5s to £7 2s 6d; light and killable, £5 to £6. Pigs: Baconers, 70s to 90s; porkers, 54s to 68s.
