ROYAL DANCERS

PRINCESSES ENTERTAIN (Times Air Mail Service) LONDON, July 8 The Queen went to a concert in a village schoolroom on Saturday night, and from a front-row seat watched Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose take part in the show, says the Daily Mirror. The Princesses were the stars, and the other performers were village children and evacuees from London’s East End. For weeks they had been rehearsing for this concert to help the Minesweepers’ Comforts Fund. Th Princesses presented a “sisters’ act.” They gave a pianoforte recital and a tap-dance number. Princess Elizabeth also gave two solo dances and a recitation, while her younger sister presented a speciality dance on her own. Both were In several ballets with the other children, and were at their best in a number entitled, “An Apple for the Teacher.”

Another feature of the programme was a sketch from “Alice in Wonderland,” in which Princess Margaret played the dormouse. It was all good fun. The children wore neat little party frocks, but no costumes or make-up. The Queen, surrounded by mothers of village children, greatly enjoyed the show. During the interval she congratulated several of the mothers on their children's acting.
