STATE WELCOME GIVEN CLIPPER FROM NOUMEA AIR CORPORATION OFFICIALS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Monday A party of directors of Pan American Airways and a number of prominent United States public men were passengers in the American Clipper, which left Noumea at 7.25 this morning and arrived at Auckland at 2 o’clock after having been delayed for four days at Noumea by unfavourable weather. The clipper will leave early tomorrow morning on the return journey. Seven of the Americans will travel i'n the clipper. The remaining seven will leave for Sydney on Wednesday in one of Tasman Empire Airways’ fly-ing-boats, later making a round-the-Pacific flight embracing the East Indies, Hongkong and Manila. Personnel of Party The leader of the party was Mr Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, of New York, chairman of the board of directors of Pan American Airways. He was accompanied by two directors of the corporation, Mr Edward O. McDonnell and Mr Graham B. Grosvenor. A prominent visitor was the Governor of the Territory of Alaska, Dr. Ernest L. Gruening. Other Pacific Coast representatives were the Mayor of Los Angeles, Mr Fletcher Bowron; the president of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce; Mr J. L. Van Norman; Mr Stephen Royce, of Pasadena, a hotel operator; and Mr Charles R. Page, representing the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. A newspaper group consisted of Mr Paul C. Patterson, managing editor of the Baltimore Sun; Mr Clem J. Randau, vice-president of the United Press, New York; Mr Thomas Beck, director of P. F. Collier and Company, proprietors of Collier’s Weekly, and the Crowell Publishing Company; Mr Malcolm Muir, president and publisher of the Newsweek, New York; Mr James G. Stahlman, publisher of the Nashville Banner, Nashville, Tennessee; and Mr Amon G. Carter, publisher of the Star-Telegram, Fort Worth, Texas. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, represented the Government in welcoming the party on arrival and presided at a State dinner held this evening. The Australian Trade Commissioner, Mr C. E. Critchley, spoke, and a welcome on behalf of the people of Auckland was extended by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis.
