CARNIVAL CLUB’S YEAR

FINANCIAL GAIN OF £57 (Special to Times) RAGLAN, Saturday. There was a splendid attendance or members at the annual meeting of the Raglan Carnival Club. In the absence or the president, Mr R. H. A. Cushman, the chair was taken by Mr H. Cushman. Before commencing the business the secretary, Mr C. H. Marcroft, referred to Mr Cushman’s continued illness, and a motion was carried that a message be conveyed offering best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery. The annual report submitted by the secretary stated .that the affairs of the club were in a very healthy state, due to a successful year’s operations in which members and the public assisted generously The year commenced with a credit balance of £58 3s 5d, and after paying accounts amounting to £ll9 3s 6d a credit of £115 8s 7d was shown on this year’s balance-sheet. A summary of these payments showed that the club made a net gain of £57 5s 2d on the year’s working. Thanks were expressed to the Raglan County Council for helpful assistance, to all members who by their assistance on carnival day made the event such a success, to Mr B. Andrews for the use of his launch, and to businessmen for donations. Thanks were also expressed to the auditor. Mr F. Hartley, and the secretary, Mr C. H .Marcroft, who was also voted an honorarium. The election or officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr H. Wilson; president, Mr H. Cushman; vice-presidents, Messrs K. M. Wright, K. Rickett, W. 11. Bates, W. R. Moore, J. Wheeler, W. G. Vernon, B. H. Andrews, w. Cartmill, H. R. Clark, G. Gilmore and F. Turner; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. H. Marcroft; executive committee, (Messrs G. Cornes, W. A. Chitty, R. Lovegrove, E. Galvan, C Knox, I. and N. Gllmour, H. G. Orr, L. W. Hall and T. Hunter; auditor, Mr F. N. Hardey. It was decided to make arrangements for a broadcasting service during the Christmas holidays, and to confirm the secretary’s action in engaging- the Caledonian Society to stage national dancing on regatta day. Further suggested attractions were put before the meeting, chief among them being the olTer to the Hamilton Yacht Club to transfer its headquarters to Raglan. MEDICAL ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING HELD iMr E. P. Sweetman presided at the annual meeting or the Raglan Medical Association. Sympathy was extended to relatives of members who had died during the. year, Messrs E. Roscoe, F. E. Trolove and H. Goodwin. The election of oltlcers resulted as follows:—Executive committee, Messrs E P. Sweetman, G. Fenwick, W. Henwood, A. Chitty, R. Harsant, W. G. Vlrnon; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. W. Bernard; auditor, Mr G. Carr. At a meeting of the new executive, Mr E. P. sweetman was appointed chairman. Appreciation was expressed of the loyal service rendered to the association by Dr. W. H. Davis. TENNIS CLUB At the annual meeting of the Raglan Tennis Club Mr F. Hardey presided over a fair attendance. The annual report referred to the loss of members through departure from the district, several members also having gone on active service. Several dances were held during the season the proceeds of which assisted the funds.

During the 1938-39 season £2O arrears or rent were met, while last season a further £lO was paid orr. Rent to the County Council was now paid to date, and a splendid recovery in the financial position was shown.

Officers were Elected as follows:—President, Mr F. Hardey; vice-.presidents, Messrs G. Gilmore, W. H. Bates, G. Brown-lee-Smith; secretary and treasurer, Mr T. Gilmour; general committee, Mesdames h! R. Clark, F. N. Hardey, and Miss Z Middlebrook, Messrs j. Gordon, *N. Gilmour E - K- Donaldson; auditor, Mr G Carr.
