INCREASED PRODUCTION
LONGER HOURS NECESSARY TAX EXEMPTION CLAIMED (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Friday At a meeting of the Cambridge Branch of the Farmers’ Union this afternoon the increased .production campaign was discussed and the following remit to the Waikato SubProvincial Union carried: “That in view of the fact that farmers have been asked to increased the production of foodstuffs, as a war effort, in our opinion such motive can be achieved only by increased work and longer hours. We are definitely of the opinion that farmers should be exempt from the proposed excess profits tax on income derived from increased production, now under consideration by the Government.”
FARM HANDS FOR CAMP TIME THOUGH.T UNSUITABLE (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Friday At a meeting of the Advisory Committee of the increased production campaign it was reported that in regard to the change-over from butter to cheese, as undertaken by many farmers, quite a number were experiencing difficulty in arranging for the transport of their milk from the farm to the main road. Many farmers were concerned about the absence of farm workers, who were expected to enter camp for territorial training at a time when their help on the land was most needed. Word had been received from the Minister of Defence that the primary producers had been considered in regard to this matter, but the meeting considered it should be pointed out that it was impossible to do duty to the homeland with the absence of farm hands, so far as increased production was concerned.
