WAIKATO RACING CLUB INCREASE IN TAXATION A highly successful year’s operations was reviewed at the annual meeting of members of the Waikato Racing Club today. The president, Mr F. R. Seddon, presided over a good attendance. In commenting upon the report and balance-sheet (previously published), Mr A. E. Sandford, the treasurer, stated that the only appreciable change in the figures from last year was an increase in Government taxation from £22,056 to £25,005, this being accounted for by the Government’s withdrawal of the 1 per cent rebate on totalisator turnover. Mr Sandford added that in view of the waiting list for membership the club intended to adopt a rigid attitude in respect of arrears of subscriptions. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr F. R. Seddon, the only nominee for the office of president, Mr A. Miller, the only nominee for vicepresident, and Messrs H. D. Caro, P. G. Harkness, W. T. C. Christie, O. M. Monckton, G. J. Peach and A. E. Sandford, the only nominees for the
vacancies on the committee, were duly elected. Tributes to the work of Mr Seddon were paid by several members, Mr Sandford stating that Mr Seddon was responsible for a profit of £4OO on the farming operations of the property.
