REVOLT ADMITTED
FRANCE’S AFRICAN EMPIRE VICHY GOVERNMENT’S REPORT (United Tress Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlgtot) (Received August 29, 1.15 p.m.) VICHY, August 28 The Petain-Laval Government has confirmed the outbreak of a “Brit-ish-inspired rebellion” in France’s African empire. It is stated that a revolt has broken out in French East Africa, but “the necessary dispositions have been taken to localise the situation.” A communique declared that the situation arose when the Chad military governor, Colonel de la Rima, went to British West Africa after making contact with General de Gaulle for the incitement of the Chad population to rebellion. It was not made clear whether the Chad rebellion has spread to other regions.
